The word is positive
Is it a movie, an animation or a cartoon? What is its genre – sci-fi, action, thriller? And what is it about? The future? The present? The past?
I work for the best office in the world. My Colleague, who heads the Arts & Culture programme took one glimpse at avatar and hounded all of us to go watch it – in fact she even organised the tickets and made us go. We had no choice… I am not a cinema goer myself. I am quite content to wait for the bootleg – yes, I know the arguments about that but you know, I think producers have to price themselves into people’s pockets and get more organic – price low, hi volume – thats the only way. But thats a different story. I was saying that I much prefer to curl up in a blanket and watch the movie in my own terms – usually that means waiting a spell for the clearer copies but it usually is worth it.
So then I watched Avatar and I discovered that there was no other way to watch it but on the bog screen. And as i took in the strange of blue aliens, it occured to me that there were so many themes that were running through my head – colonialism (and the colonisation of the mind, environmental degradation and the future world, the linkages between nature, the spiritual world and us, …
And I don’t know what i think of it.
This much is true. James Cameron is not human. First the Titanic now he had literally outdone himself with Avatar? he is an alien and he is revealing himself through Avatar… He will soon disappear into thin air, just you watch.
And Mutheu will be King of our office.
And I work in the best office in the world.
